Beneath the no nonsense exterior of old fashioned History teacher Audrey, is a lady with a razor sharp wit and a wicked sense of humour.
Audrey gives off just the slightest hint that her formative years weren’t quite as straight-laced as she is now. Often, people think she is just an interfering old lady who can't keep her nose out of anyone's business. But she does it in good will, trying her best to help people. She is also very lonely, so she confides in her much loved cat.
Meeting a special friend whilst her visit to Malawi, Ndale comes to Waterloo Road as a surprise to Audrey and works as the school's handyman. After all the love he expresses to her we find out that he is only marrying her so he can become a British citizen and earn money for his family back in Malawi and is arrested for being in the country illegaly.
Ndale also had an interest for Sonya whilst behind Audrey's back not knowing what they got up too until Sonya feels guilt that she has betrayed her and not forgiven after crashing her wedding to tell Audrey what Ndale is really up too leaving Audrey heart broken. She forgives her eventually whilst Lorraine had plans to change Waterloo Road into a private school, with Audrey deciding to keep her job and Sonya staying as the school secretary they both come to terms and Audrey forgives her as they are the only remaining staff staying as everyone doesn't want to be part of the new school operation. Lorraine's plan to change the school doesn't happen in
the end after she realises what she is doing is not the right thing to do, all the staff stay except for Michael stepping down as head and Christine Mulgrew takes over as the new headmistress.
